Amani Johnson is a lifelong Southfield resident, a proud graduate of Southfield Public Schools, and a dedicated public servant who has spent the last six years fighting for students, families, and taxpayers on the Southfield Public Schools Board of Education.

Born and raised in Southfield, Amani knows firsthand what our public schools mean to this community—because they helped shape his own future.

At age 22, Amani became the youngest person elected to public office in Southfield’s history. For the last six years, he has worked to strengthen our schools, protect taxpayer dollars, and make sure every student in every neighborhood has access to safe buildings, strong academics, and opportunities that prepare them for life after graduation.

As both a graduate and school board member, Amani brings a deep personal commitment to Southfield Public Schools and a clear vision for where we go next.

Amani has delivered real results for Southfield students and families.

Investing in Safe, Modern Schools

Amani has helped oversee major investments to modernize school facilities, improve learning spaces, and make sure the district’s 2022 bond dollars are spent responsibly—with a focus on long-term value for students and taxpayers.

Building a Stronger, More Sustainable District

As a leader on sustainability efforts, Amani has pushed for practical solutions that put money back in the classroom, modernize district operations, and help create healthier schools for students and staff.

Expanding Academic Excellence & Educational Pathways

Amani has helped expand academic opportunities across Southfield Public Schools, which now offers more educational pathways than any district in Oakland County. From career and technical education to dual enrollment, students have more options than ever to explore their interests and graduate ready for the future
